15–20+ Years and Breaking Down
Age alone is not a verdict. Age plus a pattern is. When a unit past 15 to 20 years needs its second or third significant repair, the money starts working against you and we say so.
Parts Getting Hard to Find
Some discontinued models have control boards, inducer motors, or heat exchangers on weeks-long backorder, or gone entirely. A furnace you cannot get parts for is a furnace on borrowed time.

Gas or Electric: Which Fits Your Home?
Southern Indiana winters are cold enough that the fuel question matters. The right answer depends on what already serves your house, how it's insulated, and how you use it.
Gas Furnace
Where a gas line already serves the home, gas usually wins on operating cost through an Ohio Valley winter, and it recovers the house fast on single-digit mornings. Modern high-efficiency models vent through PVC and squeeze far more heat from every therm than the unit they replace.
Electric Furnace
Simpler equipment, no flue, no combustion. A fit for homes without gas service or with light heating loads. Operating cost runs higher per degree, which is why many all-electric homes pair electric heat strips with a heat pump instead of relying on resistance heat alone.

How Do We Size a New Furnace?
Never by matching the sticker on the old unit.
