What does the indoor air handler do?
The indoor air handler is the unit mounted on your wall inside the room. It is the part of the mini split you actually see and feel, blowing conditioned air into the space and pulling room air back in to be cooled or heated.
How many air handlers does a home need?
Each room gets its own air handler, which is what makes zone cooling possible. Most are slim and quiet and come with a remote control, so one space can run cool overnight while the rest of the house sits at a different setting.
How does the indoor unit connect to the outdoor unit?
A small set of refrigerant lines runs from the air handler to the outdoor unit through a small hole in the wall. That single penetration is the only opening the connection needs, which is why a ductless install stays contained to one spot.
